Deux jeunes gens, CATHERINE MAREUIL (DANY ROBIN) et JEAN BOMPART (DANIEL GELIN), sont retrouvés morts dans un terrain vague. L’inspecteur PLONCHE (LOUIS JOUVET) s’informe. Le père du jeune homme, sculpteur de condition modeste, lui révèle qu’ils devaient se marier bientôt. PLONCHE interroge les parents de la jeune fille, de riches industriels. La vérité apparaît. Les MAREUIL ont tout fait pour empêcher leur fille d’épouser ce jeune homme qu’ils jugeaient sans avenir Les jeunes gens effrayés ont préféré se suicider plutôt que d’être séparés. PLONCHE dit son mépris aux MAREUIL convoqués au Quai des Orfèvres.

Two youngsters, CATHERINE MAREUIL (DANY ROBIN) and JEAN BOMPART (DANIEL GELIN), are found dead on an empty terrain. Inspector PLONCHE (LOUIS JOUVET) galhers information. The young man’s father, a sculptor, reveals that they would soon have married. PLONCHE continues his inquiry and questions the young girl’s parents, rich industrialists. Finally the truth comes out. The MAREUIL have done everything to keep their daughter from wedding this young man whom they judged to be without a future. The young people were scared enough to prefer suicide to the threat of being separated. PLONCHE speaks out his contempt for the MAREUIL who have been summoned to the Quai des Orfèvres.
